The Remarkable Ranisar, Padmasar & Gulab Sagar Lakes in Jodhpur

There are many notable and beautiful lakes in city of Jodhpur. There are two significant lakes located around 5kms from the center of the city. These two lakes are the Ranisar Lake and the Padmasar Lake. The Ranisar Lake was built in the year 1459 near the Fateh pole in Mehrangarh. It was built by Queen Jasmade Hadi. She was the wife of Rao Jodha.

The Padmasar Lake was built by Queen Padmini. She was the daughter of Rana Sanga of Mewar. Both these lake were built to conserve water around 500 years ago. Therefore the lands near to these rivers seldom run out of water.

Gulab Sagar Lake

Another beautiful lake in Jodhpur is the Gulab Sagar Lake which was built in year 1788. This exquisite lake is located in the Sardar Market in the city of Jodhpur. The Gulab Sagar Lake is situated 6kms from the old city area. The lake was constructed under the supervision of Gulab Rai. She was the lover of Maharaja Vijay Singh. The Gulab Sagar Lake was earlier known as Bawri, which was a source of water.

The measurement of the Gulab Sagar Lake is 150x90m and it took almost 8 years to complete the construction of the entire lake. Water is supplied to the lake through a canal flowing from Bal Samand Lake. There are many attractive places near to the Gulab Sagar Lake. One of the most attractive places near to the lake includes the Kunjebehari temple. The Kunjebehari temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna.

Tourists are attracted to the beauty of the Gulab Sagar Lake due to the presence of this beautiful temple located in the premises. The Kunjebehari temple is one of the architectural marvels constructed in the city of Jodhpur. The entrance and the top of the temple are carved exquisitely with beautiful patterns and designs. The main entrance of the temple includes a beautiful statue of Meera Bai. Meera was a great devotee of Lord Krishna. There are two more beautiful statues in the temple. The statues of Lord Hanuman and a saint named Namdeo can be found at the entrance of the temple.

The Kunjebehari temple near to the Gulab Sagar Lake has striking similarities to the Ghanshyamji temple in the city of Jodhpur. The main idol of the temple, Lord Krishna, is placed in the central hall of the temple. The central hall is also known as the Garbh Griha.
